Curacao is a beautiful island. From north to south and from east to west, this island radiates a casual, relaxed and restful atmosphere. But some parts are even more beautiful than others. Jan Thiel Bay is such a place. This is one of the most famous tourist destinations on Curacao. Tropical nature, lush beaches and relaxed tranquility are the rule rather than the exception. It is an ideal area for tourists, especially as there are many high-quality accommodations.

Curacao forms the ABC islands together with Aruba and Bonaire. These semi-autonomous countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands lie just off the coast of Venezuela in the Caribbean Sea. The capital of Curacao is called Willemstad and not far from Willemstad, about 10 kilometers, is Jan Thiel Bay. The island's international airport is just about 20 kilometers from the bay.

Weather

Jan Thiel Bay has a semi-arid climate. This means that in general there is very little rain and that the temperature is high. Throughout the year the temperature fluctuates between 25 and 31 degrees. This means that you can also enjoy the sun in the winter months. However, keep in mind that the last 3 months of the year are the rainy season. In October, November and December it rains almost 5 times as much as in the summer months.

History

On the south coast of Curacao it was Jan Thielen who set up a plantation in the 17th century. Partly due to its favorable location in relation to the sea, the plantation became a very important economic factor for Curaçao. This plantation has been used well into the 20th century, but in the past century more and more energy has been put into exploiting the area for the growing tourist industry. Curacao is not overflowing with cultural sights and Jan Thiel Bay certainly not. Nevertheless, there is plenty to do on the island. For example, there are various nature parks where you can walk through quietly to enjoy the exotic nature that occurs on the island. Various plants, animals and birds live there. The most famous nature park is the Christoffel Park, which is located in the north of the island.

In addition, Curacao is full of old country houses that date back to the colonial period. Some are in good condition, others are dilapidated and some have been restored and now serve as a restaurant or similar. Either way, they are well worth a visit. In addition, it is also possible to view the Hato caves. These are located near the island's international airport. You have to love bats if you want to see the many stalagmites, stalactites and coral formations.

The Jan Thiel Bay itself mainly consists of holiday accommodations. From luxury hotels to all inclusive resorts and decent apartments, there is plenty of choice.

Curacao is known worldwide as a diving hotspot. On the south coast of the island you can dive beautifully and here is the Jan Thiel Bay. You don't have to search long for certified diving schools here, because there are plenty of them here. So both novice and experienced divers can enjoy the beautiful underwater world of the Caribbean Sea with its colorful coral and many exotic fish species.

Finally, you should definitely go to Willemstad for a day. Located only ten kilometers from Jan Thiel Bay and absolutely worth it because of its unique architecture. Of course everyone knows the colored houses in the center of the city. This center has been placed on its World Heritage List by UNESCO. Fort Amsterdam and the Sint Anna Bay are also definitely worth a visit. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings and especially the relaxed tranquility of the island.
